Mona from "Headquarters"
“Stephanie speaking, Big Giant Software Company Hinterland Development Office – may I help you?”
“Hi Stephanie, this is Mona LaGroana and I’m calling from headquarters in the Payroll department – our Time and Expense system has crashed – we need to know who everyone is in your office so we can rebuild the system.”
"Hi Mona, sure, what is it you need? Just the names? Don’t you need their titles to?”
“Well, yeah, we’ll need to rebuild them too, but let’s start with the names – I don’t want to bother you TOO MUCH. The system just might come back up on its own!”
“Oh, we can only hope! We have 138 people here – you need them all? You want me to e-mail the list to you?”
"Nah, our e-mail’s down too – when it rains it pours, dontcha know? I’m fast, if I have to I’ll interrupt you – let’s get started – go!"
Stephanie peels off all 138 names; it takes about ten minutes for Mona’s flying fingers to get them all recorded.
“Great!” Mona exclaims, “Now, starting at the top, do you have time to read me off their titles?”
“Sure! I may have to put you on hold a few times – I’m the only one at the Switchboard – Gina’s gone to lunch. It’s been quiet so far but you never know!” Stephanie laughs.
Mona laughs too, and says, “Yeah, ya’ never know!”
Silently, she laughs evilly to herself as she takes down all 138 titles, along with the extension numbers Stephanie begins to automatically peel off, for no known reason. Knowing what this gravy boat will bring on the open market, she hangs up without even saying "good-bye" and positions the groups together so she may more easily present them to her customer. All told, she scores 111 names she can use for her project in about 30 minutes. She knows she’ll represent this as being 25 hours of work to her customer and at $100/hr. she closes up shop for the day and goes shopping.
